Laurel Yurgiewicz 75 of East Haven, passed away on August 3, 2017, at Yale New Haven Hospital St. Raphael Campus. She was born February 4, 1942, the daughter of Charles and Helen Yurgiewicz. Laurel was a teacher at Ferrara Elementary School in East Haven for 34 years, retiring 20 years ago. She graduated MAGNUM CUM LAUDE from SCSU. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, and her pets. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Pompeii, a former president of the Ladies Guild and member of the choir. She is survived by her sister Beverly Yurgiewicz and her long term Canadian partner Henri; she was predeceased by long time friend Fortunato DeLucia. We wish to thank her caregivers Shanda and Schanelle. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday August 9th from 4-7 P.M. at Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven; the funeral procession will assemble at the funeral home on Thursday August 10th at 9:30 AM and will proceed to a 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 355 Foxon Road, East Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association of Southern Connecticut, 2911 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT.
