Mrs. Lorraine MacArthur Monnier age 88 of Frederick, MD went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2008. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Dwight C. Monnier, who passed away on January 22, 1979. Lorraine was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1919 at home in East Haven, Ct. She was the daughter of the late Margaret (Brown) and Russell MacArthur. Mrs. Monnier attended the University of Connecticut and graduated with a B.A. Degree from American University, Beirut Lebanon in 1968. She was a member of the Damascus United Methodist church for fifty years and chaired missions many times. Active politically and philanthropically, Lorraine was a charter member of P.E.O., Mt. Airy Chapter. She was president four times of Damascus Republican Women’s Club and Vice President of the Montgomery Federation of Republican Women. Surviving are two daughters Donna Taylor Loeb, Linda Purdom and son-in-law Allan Purdom of Frederick, a son Dwight Monnier and daughter-in-law Shirley Monnier of Hagerstown, MD, three grandchildren, Tonya Taylor Rubinstein and Husband Donald Rubinstein of Santa Fe, NM, Tiffany Monnier, Frederick , Bill Purdon, Tennessee and five great-grandchildren, Cloe,Brittany, Brandon, Bonnie and Nadia. Lorraine is survived by her brother, Graham MacAurthur, sister-in-law Jean of Rochester, NY,
A private burial for family and close friends will be held at East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven on December 12, 2008 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Frederick County, P.O. Box 1799, Frederick, MD 21702 or the Damascus United Methodist Church, 9700 New Church Street, Damascus, MD 20872.
