Obituary of David P. Dunaj

In New Haven, December 31, 2008. David P. Dunaj, 59, of Short Beach Rd., East Haven. Beloved husband of Claire Cantore Dunaj. Father of David Dunaj and wife Dawn, Matthew Dunaj and wife Kristine, Joseph Dunaj and Christopher Dunaj. Grandfather of Tyler, Alexander and Elijah Dunaj. Brother of Andrew Dunaj and Margaret Swist. Born August 8, 1949 in New Haven a son of the late Andrew and Catherine Nicolari Dunaj, he was raised in Derby, CT and was a graduate of Derby High School class of 1967. He then served with the US Coast Guard from 1968-1972. David was employed for over seventeen years as a quality control inspector for Covidien (formerly US Surgical). A very active participant in the Boy Scouts of America, David served in many positions over the years and earned several awards including the Silver Beaver, The Wood Badge, The Scoutmaster award of merit and the district award of merit. He assisted many scouts in preparing for rank of Eagle and enjoyed organizing camporees and participating in the International Camporee at Sequassen. He was particularly proud of organizing a meeting of the Russian Young Pioneers and our local Boy Scouts in 1990. He loved the game of golf and spent many hours teeing it up at various courses especially the Alling Memorial GC. He was an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams. Above all he cherished his family and many friends and was the glue that held many friendships together. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Monday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St.Bernadette Church at 10:00. Interment will be private. Friends may call Sunday from 3-7pm.
