Obituary of Dwight Eldridge

Dwight L. Eldridge lived his 96 years to the fullest, A life-long resident of East Haven, Dwight passed away on Jan. 11,2009. Dwight loved life and had an amazing will to live . Everyone he came in contact with instantly fell in love with his kind heart, gentle ways and extraordinary sense of humor.Dwight was a devoted husband to Loretta Murphy Eldridge for over sixty five years until her passing in Jan. 2000. His unconditional love , selfless caring and devotion to her was inspirational. His Favorite past – times and passions were spending time at the shore ( Whaler’s Point) where he lived for many years, creating wood art in his shed and basement from anything he could find, taking pictures, speeding through East Haven in his wheelchair, visiting Litchfield County where he spent many summers on his grandfather’s farm, and being with family and friends, with whom he adored, as much as possible. He has touched the hearts of so many and will be deeply missed by all that he knew but never ever forgotten. Dwight has gone on to be with his wife Loretta again, his brothers and sisters Howard, Warren, Kenneth, Helen and Grace and his many friends that have passed before him. Loved ones mourning his passing here on earth are his sons Donald and Kenneth and their wives Roberta and Brenda, his grandchildren Diane, Lee, Kenneth, Darcey, Debbie, Laurie and Deanne, their husbands and wives, Chris, David, Joanne, David and Steve and his great grandchildren that he so adored, Kayleigh, Phillip, Heline and Hunter. Born Nov. 8,1912 in East Haven a son of the late Ruel and Helen Johnson Eldridge, he was a truck driver for many years with Teamster’s local # 443 and also had been a custodian with the East Haven school system for several years. Funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 in The Old Stone Church, East Haven. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the Clancy Funeral , 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, prior to the service Thursday morning from 9:00 – 10:30. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Old Stone Church, 251 Main St., East haven, CT 06512 or the CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405. The entire family would like to give thanks to Ct Hospice in Branford for making his last days as comfortable and as peaceful as possible.
