In CT Hospice, Branford, Feb. 27, 2009. Margaret M. Canning, 90, of Rose St. Branford. Sister of the late Marie Kundert and John C. Canning. Beloved aunt of Mary C. and Nelson L. LaFogg of Cheshire, Joan and Donald T. Carlson of Old Saybrook, John A. and Elaine .M. Canning of Guilford, James Canning of Guilford, and Mary L. and Kearney Smith, Laura K. and John Callon; Katherine Kundert, Roberta A. and Kent Westover, and Amy Z. Kundert, all of CA.. Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews including Ann Marie E. Carlson and Elizabeth R. Carlson, both of Old Saybrook. Margaret was born Dec. 21, 1918 in Providence,RI, a daughter of the late Andrew and Angel Bruyneel Canning, was a graduate of the former Boardmann Trade School in New Haven. She was employed as a secretary, first with Sargent Co., then with Armstrong Tire Co. and then with the Knights of Columbus, from where she retired. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Branford, the Canoe Brook Senior Citizens of Branford and the North Branford Seniors. Among her many hobbies, she loved to play cards, bowl, collect stamps and had a talent for needle work, she was an avid quilter and crocheter. Margaret loved to travel, and went to many places in the world, but the highlight of her life's travels was her cruise through the Panama Canal. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Sat. morning at 8:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Church, Branford at 9:00. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Sat morning from 7:30 - 8:30. Memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT, 06405.
