Louis “Barney” Acampora of Lauderdale Lakes, Florida (formerly of New Haven, Connecticut) passed away on July 1, 2009, at the age of 90. Louis was born in New Haven on May 20, 1919, son of the late Alphonso and Josephine (Emiliano) Acampora. He retired from New Haven Pulp and Board Company (Simkins) and was also a proud United States Navy Seaman and recipient of the Bronze Star. Louis was predeceased by the late Dominica (Mamie) (Santamauro) Acampora, a son Salvator, and survived by his wife Catherine Richitelli Acampora. He was the father of Ronald (Geraldine) Acampora, Sandra (Acampora) Goral, Louis (Eileen) Acampora, Steven (Charmaine) Acampora and the step-father of Lillian Beebe and Anthony (Pamela) Ruggiero. He was predeceased by his brothers: Andrew, Nicholas, Frank, Peter, Salvatore, Michael, Pasquale and his sisters: Mary Cucurello, Nancy Torre, Carmel Salvati, Jennie Juliano, Christine Consiglio, Angelina Benevento and Lucille Baker. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home,43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Friday morning at 9:30. Mass of Christian burial in St.Vincent de Paul Church at 10:00. Burial with military honors will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 4-8pm.
