Shirley (Olson) Mawney 93 of North Branford passed away September 5, 2017. She was born June 10, 1924 in New Haven to Thomas and Mary (Rively) Olson. Shirley is survived by her two loving daughters, Linda Gauvin of North Branford and TSgt. USAF (ret.) Claudia Strohl (John) of Alaska along with grandson Marcus A. Lay and two great grandchildren, Seth M. Lay and Rhone X. Lay. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, husband William Mawney (1981) and brother, Thomas Olson. Shirley Mawney was a member of Trinity Church of Branford for 30 years. She started the Brownies of North Branford in 1958. She worked in the North Branford School lunch program, where she became assistant manager. She loved to knit and crochet. She traveled as often as possible. She loved all pets especially her beloved dog “Maggie” and her cat “Little Bitts.” Family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the time of service at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 11, 2017 in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Shirley Mawney.
