Katherine (Horn) Markey, 97, of Woodbridge passed away peacefully on September 20, 2017. She was born on August 30, 1920 in New Haven to Louis and Katherine (Jooss) Horn. Katherine is survived by her daughter-in-law, Janice (Russell) Markey of New Haven and two granddaughters, Kathryn Markey Lundgren (Benjamin Lundgren) of Middletown, RI and Rachel Markey of Burlington, VT. Katherine is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Louis R. Horn, husband, James E. Markey and son, Douglas Siering Markey (Feb.2017).
Katherine grew up on Whalley Avenue in New Haven and graduated from New Haven Public Schools in 1938. She worked for the Southern New England Telephone Company soon after it opened. Katherine was a skilled needle pointer, avid reader and gracious hostess for EAA meetings that were held at her house regularly during the 1960’s. As a passionate gardener she maintained stunning flower gardens and enjoyed creating elaborate flower arrangements. An animal lover as well, she adopted numerous dogs and cats throughout her life. Katherine was always thinking about the wellbeing of others. She cared deeply for her family and those that she loved. Her elegant style and natural beauty, especially in her old age, was inspiring to all who met her. She will be remembered for her loving, kind nature and gorgeous smile.
A private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. Funeral services are in the care of Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), East Haven.
