Phyllis (DeFilippo) Pozika 82 of New Haven passed away December 31, 2017 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born January 17, 1935 in New Haven to James and Angelina (Verillo) DeFilippo. Phyllis is survived by her loving children, Sheri Bassett (Robert) of New Haven and Michael Pozika (Jennifer) of New Haven along with two grandchildren, Brian Davis and Mark Davis (Melissa) and one great granddaughter, who was the love of Phyllis’ life, Aurora Davis. Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Benjamin Pozika (1983) and a brother, James DeFilippo.
Phyllis worked as a crossing guard for the City of New Haven for 6 years before becoming a teller for Connecticut Savings Bank while she went to school to receive her certification to be a CNA. She then worked as a CNA at Apple Rehab Laurel Woods for 22 years where she retired in January 2016. Phyllis loved spending time with her family and friends, creating memories and enjoying as much as she could, going on bus trips with her friends was a favorite. She loved spending time with her coworkers and patients, always joking and making everyone smile. The times she was with her great granddaughter, Aurora, were some of her favorite moments, watching her grow into such a lovely young girl.
Family will receive friends from 10 to 10:50 AM on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home at 11 AM Wednesday for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM in St. Therese Catholic Church, 555 Middletown Ave. North Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Phyllis Pozika
