Mary Ann (Motus) Luden Potoniec, 79, of Branford, passed away peacefully at Talmadge Park Nursing Home on January 1, 2018. She was born in New Haven, CT on February 7, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Alexander and Mary (Cerlanek) Motus. She attended Wilbur Cross High School, was employed at the United Illumination Company for several years, and retired after 30 years of service as a legal secretary from the Law Office of John R. Williams. Mary Ann was the beloved mother of her children, Lisa (Steven) Grunn of Newton, NJ, Raymond E. (Sheridan) Luden Jr. of Guilford, CT, and Donna J. Luden Sawicki of New Haven, CT. She was a proud grandmother of Jaclyn Sawicki (David Dwyer), Jeffrey, Kayla and Kyle Grunn, and Kendra and Devyn Luden. She also leaves her dear aunts, Genevieve Paleski and Constance Rasimas as well as many cousins. She was predeceased by her husbands, Raymond E. Luden, Sr. and Theodore V. Potoniec, Sr. Mary Ann was involved in the start up of the Connecticut Classics Drum and Bugle Corps in East Haven, CT. She was also a member of the Branford Elks #1939. Mary Ann was an avid fan of the UCONN Huskies Women’s Basketball team and the New York Giants. She traveled to many NCAA Women’s Basketball tournaments. She enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Spain, the Caribbean, New Hampshire and the Finger Lakes. She enjoyed camping, bowling, dancing, dinners at the Elks and spending quality time with her best friend of 57 years, Janet Vergason. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM on Thursday, January 4, 2018 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Her funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Friday, January 5 at 10:40 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal to follow at East Lawn Cemetery.
