William R Parker, teacher,coach, of 264 Chidsey Ave., East Haven, died on December 29 at St Rapahel’s hospital, after a brief illness.Bill was born in New Haven CT on April 4, 1928, a son of the late James and Mary Tomko Parker. Bill’s first wife, Mary Manfredi Parker died in 1985.Bill will be sadly missed by his loving family. He leaves his children, Bill Jr. of East Haven and Jennifer of Amherst, MA; his wife, Henrietta Bergeron Parker, his sisters Betty and Margaret, and a brother, Richard, and was predeceased by a brother, Robert; his stepchildren, Mark and Renee, and his nephews Danny and Eric.Bill was a loving and doting grandfather and will be especially missed by his grandchildren, Michael and Christopher of Sandy Hook, CT., Gia and Caleb of Amherst, MA., and his step grandchildren, Jennifer, Melina and Jessica.Bill was raised and attended schools in Ansonia, CT. He was a star athlete in high school, and was later inducted into the Ansonia High School Hall of Fame. Bill was an officer in the Navy. He graduated from Southern Ct State University where he played football and earned a teaching degree. Bill taught math in the East Haven School system for 38 years. Bill’s greatest passion, however, was sports. A long time football coach in Branford and East Haven, Bill’s proudest moment was coaching his son, Bill Jr., who was the quarterback and captain of the EHHS football team in 1977. Bill traveled far to watch his daughter play college sports at UMass, and in later years, could be found on the soccer sidelines and pool stands cheering on his grandchildren in their competitions. Bill enthusiastically shared his love of sports with the children of East Haven. He was employed by the East Haven Recreation Department for 40 years. He was also the longtime treasurer for the New Haven Boys and Girls Club. Calling hours will be at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave, East Haven, on Sunday January 3, 3-6 pm. A liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at the St Vincent de Paul Church, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven, Ct. at 10 am Monday, January 4. Burial with military honors will follow at East Lawn Cemetery.Contributions in Bill’s honor can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of New Haven, Ct., 253 Columbus Ave. New Haven, Ct.
