Obituary of Ann Byrne

Ann (McCarthy) Byrne, 93 of East Haven, a retired Registered Nurse passed away on May 24, 2018 in Vero Beach where she has lived since 2015. Prior to moving to Florida, she lived in Yorktown VA and was a longtime resident of East Haven.  She was born September 12, 1924 in Port Henry, NY to Thomas and Mary (Disotell) McCarthy.   

A graduate of Hillhouse High School, she earned her Registered Nurse Degree from St Francis School of Nursing Hartford in 1945, while participating in the Cadet Nurse Program. She retired from the city of East Haven after serving many years as a school nurse at Deer Run Elementary School as well as East Haven High. She also worked for the Red Cross prior to becoming a school nurse and was a member of the American Nurses Association.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, John P. Byrne (2002).  Ann is survived by her three loving children, daughter, Barbara Higgins (Kevin) of Vero Beach, Florida; a son, John Byrne (Gayle) of Killingworth and son, Paul Byrne (Paula) of North Haven; four grandchildren:  Kimberley Brackenbush (John) of Indian Trails, NC;  Michael Higgins of Gloucester, VA;  Jeremy Byrne (Jennifer) of West Hartford;  and Allyson Byrne. She is also survived by six great grandchildren:  Kaylee and Tyler Higgins of Gloucester, VA; Carson Brackenbush of Indian Trails, NC; Johanna and Julianne Byrne of West Hartford and Jasmine Byrne of Killingworth.

Family will receive friends from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Wednesday at 10:35 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, 355 Foxon Rd., East Haven with Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.
