Richard Bowden 63 of East Haven passed away peacefully on July 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. He was born August 24, 1954 in New Haven to Robert and Marion (Ward) Bowden. Richard is survived by his longtime friend and fiancé’ Elaine Volpe and his seven children; Jennifer Bowden of East Hampton, Robert Bowden (Kim Schroeder) of New Haven, Brian Bowden of New Haven, Lauren Bowden (Tristan Johnson) of New Haven, Katelyn Bowden of Milford, Jonathan Bowden (Alexa Norton) of East Haven and Alex Bowden of East Haven along with ten grandchildren as well as one great-grandchild to be. Richard is also survived by his siblings; Bobby Hull of Fl, Patricia Hull Kahler (Bill) of Fl., Sue Simpson of East Haven and Ronald Bowden of Fl. He is preceded in death by his parents, great- grandson, Elijah Maldonado and a sister, Pam Hull.

"Papa Smurf", as he was known to many, was a life long resident of East Haven. He had a vast knowledge of local history and could always be counted on to recall past people and events. He served his community for many years as a volunteer fireman with Bradford Manor Company 4. He was an avid photographer and collector of fire department memorabilia and loved nothing more than family get togethers. His quick wit and sarcastic sense of humor will be missed by all.

Family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday July 25th, 2018 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
