Please confirm receipt.
I learned of my G-dfather Uncle Jules passing yesterday morning. To say I am sad is an understatement. Uncle Jules was 93 and passed peacefully in his sleep in a hospital not far from my home.
Uncle Jules represented so much of what is good in this world to his beloved family including his parents, siblings, wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and all that knew him.
A principled and learned man - Jules had 3 degrees including a law degree, & a CPA & had been married for over 70 years to my dear G-dmother Aunt Mildred & was the patriarch of our close knit family.
They named a street after him on Singer Island. (And later had it taken away after his retirement as VP of ITT when he supported a senior citizen in an age discrimination case against the telecommunications giant. That’s the principle I’m talking about!)
My earliest memories include him, my Aunt Mildred and our big, loving family including cousins Paul, Robert, Randy & Michael. Their home year after year was open to us all for holidays & family gatherings. Their love and generosity impacted so many lives tremendously.
Uncle Jules helped fill the void after my Dad’s death (I was 23 when my dad died who was his youngest brother) and I’m at a loss for words. Of course seeing the last link to my Dad from the Berke side kicks up some old trauma - I couldn’t even speak at the funeral or family gathering when my Aunt Mildred left us.
It is through the deep love I feel for him & my Tanta Mildred and his beautiful children & grandchildren that I will forever hold him close to my heart. I am forever grateful for knowing him.
I love you and will miss you dear Uncle Jules. I cannot say goodbye.
