Obituary of Linda Smith

Linda Smith 63 of New Haven passed away peacefully on October 6, 2019 at CT Hospice. She was born March 27, 1956 in Bridgeport to Robert and Dorothy (Koteles) Kohary. Linda is survived by her parents, loving and devoted husband of over 40 years, James Smith Sr., son, James Smith II of Guilford and a daughter, Jessica Alfano (Greg) of North Haven. Linda is also survived by four grandchildren who she adored, Savana Smith, Grace Alfano, Liam James Smith and Cecelia Alfano along with three siblings, Robert Koharty of Wallingford, David Kohary (Sue) of Northford and Karen Gizzi (Ron) of Hamden.

Linda was first and foremost a woman of strength, faith, unwavering devotion to her loved ones, and a giving spirit. She had the ability to foster creativity, joy, and strong work ethic. Linda never ceased to be the hardest-working person in a room and to take on any task with grace. She truly was the most selfless person you could ever meet.

Jim and Linda had begun the next chapter of their lives together, fostering a joy of travel. Linda's favorite vacation spot was Islamorada, Florida. It was there she would enjoy her love of the ocean, nature, and Jim's fishing. They were able to travel to visit family and friends down south, and she always looked forward to and spoke of those trips lovingly.

Linda shared her passion for water, and especially the ocean, with each grandchild. Her grandchildren will forever be reminded of the sun shining down on them as she played with them in the surf, and the sand, and every moment she was gifted with on this earth. They will never forget how much she loved to swim.

She was also a Master Chef, teaching her grandchildren real life skills of cooking, making a mess, and being responsible to clean it up. 

Linda, hands down, had a green thumb. Any season, any moment, it would appear her gardens would be ready to bloom. Her gardens will forever be filled with the love she has for her family. They will continue to plant, care for, and grow with each other. 

Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 10, 2019 from 4 p.m. until the time of service at 7 p.m. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private.
