Obituary of Neil Giannone

Please share a memory of Neil to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Neil Giannone of East Haven passed away April 26, 2020 at home. He was born February 23, 1952 in Brooklyn, NY. He is the son of the late Biagio and Mary (Genovese) Giannone. Neil was the former husband of Adrienne, father of Justin Giannone (Danielle), stepfather of Stephen Drgon, and grandfather of his sweet granddaughter, Esme Giannone; and also long-time companion of Laura Yarislovia and her daughter, Maria. Brother of his twin, Anthony, and other loving siblings, Frank, Deborah (John), Jamie (Lisa) and Lori (Larry). Also missed by Uncle Jimmy, and his many nieces and nephews, for his insight and encouragement. Neil was a very successful businessman and a generous person when it came to his family and friends. He was very perceptive, knowledgeable, and articulate and always had some interesting comments to give you a refreshing take on things. Honest to a fault. He was also the ultimate salesman; he could sell you the Brooklyn Bridge 3 times over! A graduate of Loyola College in Maryland, he was a proud New Yorker and an avid Mets fan (though he wouldn’t admit it!) He loved watching sports and horse racing (a passion he shared with his brother, Frankie). He also always appreciated a good home-cooked meal, including doggie bags (compliments of his sister-in-law!). Neil was very good at reassuring and calming people down, or riling them up, depending on the topic! He made sure to point out people’s finer qualities and traits – always with a compliment! And if there was an elephant in the room, he wouldn’t hesitate to let you know. A private graveside service will be held at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven and under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, East Haven. He will be missed! For any donations in memory of Neil, we would appreciate them going to: Riccio-Pick-Me-Ups, (founded in New Jersey, an organization dedicated to helping young people and their families with chronic illnesses. Neil’s niece, Amara Riccio, started this organization after suffering devastating brain injuries and ongoing physical disabilities and she wanted to pay it forward. (It’s supported totally by donations). She and her cousin, Jessica Giannone, are collaborating on a self-help book to give some comfort to those suffering with these issues. Neil was always there to help in any way at their fundraisers. Donations may be sent to Lori Giannone Riccio, Amara’s mom, at 7 Basswood Drive, Howell, NJ 07731.
