Nicholas Vegliante Jr. 82 of East Haven passed away December 16, 2020 at St. Raphael Campus of Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born May 27, 1938 in New Haven to Nicholas and Josephine (DePoto) Vegliante. Nicholas is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Michaelyn (Szlosek) Vegliante and children; Nicholas P. Vegliante (Sara) of Preston, Sherri Guidone (Jay) of MA and Tina Vegliante of Derby. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Nicholas M. Vegliante, Cecilia Vegliante, Jake Guidone and Julia Guidone and a sister, Joan Panico of Branford. Nicholas is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Neal Vegliante, and sisters, Anita Lanzoni and Corrine Cheeseman. After attending UCONN and receiving his bachelors from Southern Connecticut and his masters from the University of Bridgeport, Nick taught middle school and high school algebra and geometry in his hometown of East Haven for over 30 years. Nicknamed the Mayor of Morgan Point as a child for organizing his neighborhood’s little league, his love for athletics as a participant and spectator lasted his entire life. After being a basketball player and golfer in high school, he became an avid bowler, winning a state amateur championship in 1962. He loved watching and discussing the Red Sox and spending time with his family and pets. A member of the Elks for nearly 40 years, Nick loved to socialize, most of all, alongside his wife. Family will receive friends from 10 AM until 12:00 PM (Noon) on Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven CT with a graveside service to follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, 295 E. Main Street, Branford CT. Please follow social distancing and mask wearing protocol. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA at https://www.aspca.org/ways-to-give.
