Obituary of Edward Fitzgerald

Edward Fitzgerald 78 of Branford, formerly of East Haven, passed away March 20, 2021. He was born September 2, 1942 in New Haven to the late Edward J. and Elsie (Werle) Fitzgerald. Edward is survived by his sister, Mary Ann Lally (widow of Thomas) of Eastford, CT. He was predeceased by his sister Kathleen Gulbranson (Bruce) of SC. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Bruce Gulbranson of SC, his nephew, Robert Gulbranson (Erin) of SC, nieces, Elizabeth Nesti (Anthony) of HI and Susan Srock of SC and great nieces and nephews. His longtime friend Tad Ciemier also survives him, as well as many cousins in the extended Werle and Fitzgerald families. Edward graduated from St. Francis School, Fair Haven, and East Haven High School. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Quartermaster. Upon return from the Navy, he worked as a Maintainer for the State of Connecticut in Bridgeport and New Haven until retirement. He was an avid art history buff and loved to visit museums and religious shrines. Ed’s compassion for the suffering and needy extended to animals and all of nature. The family is grateful to the many health professionals and aides who cared for him throughout his illness. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 10 A.M. in St. Mary Catholic Church, 5 Hillhouse Ave., New Haven CT. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. All services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven CT.
