Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley L. (McLay) Langan 98, longtime resident of East Haven passed away peacefully on October 6, 2021. She was born August 26, 1923 in New Haven to Irving and Margaret (White) McLay. Wife of the late Francis X. Langan, Shirley is survived by her children, Peg (Lou Rizzuto) Langan, Tom (Janice) Langan, Fran (Bill) Cook, Debbie (Bill) Mosher and Glenn (Marlise) Langan. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kristen Langan, Michael Langan, Michelle Langan, Adam (Marykate) Cook, Evan (Krizta Moon) Cook, Kyle (Kali) Langan, Mark (Marisa) Langan, Billy Mosher and Holly Mosher along with seven great grandchildren. As part of "The Greatest Generation" she volunteered her service as a stateside ambulance driver during WWII. Proud mother of five, early memories were formed with summers spent at the shared family compound in Higganum. Years later with kids and daily dinners in tow, she would join friends and neighbors for summer fun and everlasting card games at nearby Lake Hubinger. She was a longtime employee of New Haven's New England House Restaurant and later as day manager and permittee of Foundry Café. Shirley forged many close ties with friends and fellow workers, a smile and twinkle in her bright blue eyes for all. She loved to be around people and in her later years worked at Anthony's in Guilford, serving and ringing up pizza orders, still smiling, eyes still twinkling. Her knitting skills provided many with gifts of her handiwork. A well deserved retirement would find her enjoying years of good times in the company of friends, all residing in the same Florida condo complex, many of them from the old neighborhood back home. The card games continued! Her last years were spent where life began, back in East Haven, watching the family grow and revelling in the many family get togethers, especially Christmas Eve. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, October 12, 2021 at 11 A.M. in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private. Funeral services are under the care of the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave. East Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Breast Cancer Research Foundation, 28 West 44th Street, Suite 609, New York, NY 10036 in memory of Shirley Langan.
