Obituary of Frank Hurley

Francis “Frank” Hurley, 93, of East Haven passed away at home on August 18, 2022 surrounded by his family. He was born January 5, 1929 in West Hartford to John Hurley and Ellen (Berg) Hurley. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joan (McKay) Hurley and children; Michael Hurley (Betsy) of Lancaster, PA and Maureen Kennedy (Harold) of Hamden along with four grandchildren, Matthew Hurley, Caitlin Raffone (Eric), Ryan Kennedy (Corrine Gach) and Shannon Serra (Michael) and one great grandson, Chase Raffone. He is also survived by his two sisters, Ellen Robbins of NY and Ann Skowronek of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joseph Hurley and James Hurley. Frank retired as a supervisor of operations United Illuminating Company with 40 years of service. He was an active member of the East Haven Chamber of Commerce for 25 years and a member of the Board of Directors serving as Vice President and Treasurer. He worked on the Chamber’s annual dinner, budgets, scholarship committee, Christmas tree lighting and Fall Festival. Frank was an active member in many of the town’s volunteer organizations including: 10 year Chairman of East Haven American Red Cross and Board of Directors with the South Central CT Red Cross. He also served on the East Haven Charter Revision Commission, East Haven TV Board of Directors and Columbus Day Parade committee. He enjoyed his garden, swimming, vacations with family especially with his grand children. Special thanks to Melissa, Michelle, Katie and Elizabeth for their devoted care during Frank’s illness. Also, Home Care Plus staff nurses Mike and Lynn. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 4 P.M. until the time of service at 6:30 P.M. with US Air Force Honors at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Have. Burial will be private in East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Francis Hurley.
