Obituary of Gerald Giammattei

Gerald Giammattei, 75 of East Haven passed away unexpectedly on January 20, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born November 24, 1947 in New Haven to Mario and Mabel (Giannotti) Giammattei. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda (DiMarzo) Giammattei and two devoted children, Gerald Giammattei (Jessica) of Wallingford and Valerie Mendez (Hugo) of East Haven along with five grandchildren he adored, Erin Giammattei, Patrick Giammattei, Elizabeth Giammattei, Gianna Mendez and Logan Mendez. He is also survived by his two sisters, Donna Giammattei of West Haven and Joyce Giammattei of Brookfield. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Giammattei. Gerald served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War before getting a job at United Nuclear, where he met his loving wife Linda. He then worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier for more than 30 years. Gerald spent retirement having breakfast with friends, taking trips to the casino, spending time with his adoring grandchildren, and watching his beloved Red Sox. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25 at 10 A.M. in St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at the Church of St. Vincent de Paul, 80 Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal and US Navy Military Honors to follow at East Lawn Cemetery in East Haven.
