Obituary of Maria Lucia De Simone

Maria Lucia (Patricelli) De Simone, 87 of West Haven, passed away May 12, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital. She was born October 28, 1935 in San Marco La Catola, Foggia Italy to Antonio and Concetta (Fantetta) Patricelli. Maria is survived by her loving children; Anthony De Simone of Watertown, Angelo De Simone (Donna) of West Haven, Giovanna Bovino of West Haven and Elisabetta Valenti of Wolcott, along with nine grandchildren; Jessica De Simone, Nadia De Simone , Maryann (Percy) Yates, Daniel (Justine) De Simone, Steven (Suellem) De Simone, Rebecca Battle, Lisa Bovino, Paolo Valenti and Gina (Dominic) Del Russo. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Elisa Riccio of New Haven and Pasqualina Patricelli of Italy, a sister-in-law, Maddalena Patricelli of East Haven and many nieces and nephews. Maria is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Salvatore De Simone (2011), son, Daniele Michele De Simone, sister, Giovanna Patricelli, brother, Giuseppe Patricelli and two daughter-in-laws, Lucia De Simone and Pina De Simone. As a young lady of 17, she received formal training in Fashion Design in Bari, Italy graduating top in her class and soon after becoming a seamstress instructor. She had many students that cherished her. She became a devout Christian at the age of 15. She passed on her faith to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking, doing puzzles, gardening, daily Bible devotions and prayer. When she became home bound, she faithfully watched online church services from Messina Church in Sicily that brought her joy every day. To all who came to her for advice or encouragement, her words would be, “Put your faith and trust in God. He will never abandon you.” Her testimony will be our legacy for generations to come. Family will receive friends on Thursday May 18, 2023 from 9 A.M. until the time of service at 11 A.M. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Donation may be made to Anthony De Simone, c/o Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven CT 06512 with all proceeds going to CCE Messina Church in Sicily in memory of Maria Lucia De Simone.
