Joseph R. Amato, 97, formerly of Elizabeth Ann Drive in New Haven, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Anna (Duffy) Amato. He was born on November 21, 1916 in New Haven to the late Ralph and Josephine (Fusco) Amato. He is survived by his daughters, Carol-Ann Totte of Guilford and Patricia Mauriello (Anthony) of Watertown; his son Edward Amato (Donna) of Middletown; his grandsons Michael Mauriello of Waterbury, Matthew Mauriello of Fishkill, NY, his granddaughters Amy Beckman (Geoff) of Guilford and Alison Gontarz (James) of Marlborough, MA and five great-grandchildren. He was a veteran of WWII having served in the Army in the South Pacific. Prior to retirement he was employed by the CT DOT. Joseph was a parishioner of St. Bernadette’s Church and member of the Holy Name Society. The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the staff of Grove Manor for their compassion and care and the VITAS for their support and help in Joseph’s last days
Family will receive friends from 4 – 7 pm, Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy Funeral Home at 9:45 am on Friday, June 27th, for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bernadette Church, Townsend Ave., New Haven. Committal to follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery with military honors.
