Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frederick T. Levesque of East Haven, formerly of Hamden and North Haven, died peacefully on July 27, 2014 at the West Haven V.A. Hospital. Born on June 1, 1921 in Rivière-du-Loup, Quebec, Fred spent his formative years in Eagle Lake, Maine where he enjoyed fishing, playing baseball and spending time around the train yard where his father was the station manager. He later moved to Connecticut and graduated from Crosby High School in Waterbury. After high school Fred answered the call to serve his country during World War II and served honorably in the Army 729th Railway Battalion which saw action in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. After the war, with railroading now in his blood, he began his career as a locomotive engineer, first for the New Haven railroad, then Conn Rail and Amtrak. Fred had a passion for golf, jogging, and was a true dye-in-the-wool Boston Red Sox fan. He was a man of faith, and was a founding parishioner of St. Frances Cabrini Roman Catholic church in North Haven. Fred was blessed to be part of the close knit neighborhood of Surrey Hills which was known for its many pot luck dinners, picnics and card games. Fred always enjoyed family vacations which included trips to a cottage on McGrath Pond in Oakland Maine, Hampton Beach in New Hampshire, Canada, Florida, and attending annual reunions of his Army battalion. He will be greatly missed. Fred is survived by his wife Jeannine (L’Heureux) of 60 years; son Marc and his wife Stefania of Wallingford, son Andrew of Watertown; daughter Lisa (Rooney) and her husband Brian of Bristol; and grandchildren Alyssa, Noah, Hannah and Lauren. He is predeceased by his parents Andre and Antoinette (Lapointe); brothers, Thomas, Charles and Robert; sisters Gertrude and Annette; and a grandson Zachary. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 30 at 10:00 AM in St. Clare Church, 234 Coe Ave., East Haven. Burial will be private. Funeral services are in the care of Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven.
