Obituary of Marilyn Sembler Carter

Marilyn Sembler Carter 92 of East Haven passed away March 23, 2015 at Village at Mariner’s Point. She was born October 28, 1922 in New Haven to Edwin and Gladys (Pierce) Priest. She is preceded in death by parents and first husband, Howard Sembler. Marilyn is survived by husband of 49 years, Kenneth Carter and her three children; Trisha Nycek (Edward) of Guilford, Raymond Sembler (Lorraine) of Atlanta, GA and Robert Sembler (Judy) of Madison. Marilyn is also survived by six grandchildren; Taryn Nycek, Gillian Soles, Jordan Sembler, Courtney Sembler, Collette Sembler and Collin Sembler and her sister, Elinor Gancarz of Wallingford. Marilyn graduated East Haven High School with their first class in 1940 and was recipient of The DAR Award her senior year. She was an avid golfer and member of the Sleeping Giant Women’s Golf League. Family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM, (TODAY), Thursday, March 26, 2015 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Memorial Service on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at 11 AM in The Old Stone Church, 251 Main Street, East Haven. Graveside to follow at East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven. The Sembler and Carter family would like to acknowledge and thank all the professionals and support staff of the VNA and St. Raphael’s Hospital. A special thanks to Carol Blackwood and Joyce Saller for all their kind and compassionate care over the years.
