Carmela Isaia Ciancio passed away on August 6, 2017 surrounded by her beloved family and devoted, caring staff and volunteers at Connecticut Hospice in Branford Connecticut. She was born in Nizza di Sicilia, Italy to Grazia Patane Isaia and Placido Isaia on May 12, 1951. She immigrated to the United States with her family in 1958. She graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1969 and from the College of New Rochelle in 1973 where she also earned her Masters degree in Art and Education. Carmela Isaia Ciancio leaves behind her devoted husband Frank P. Ciancio III who she married on July 1, 1973, her beloved daughters Natalie Ciancio, Elisabeth Golden, son-in-law James Golden, sister, Letizia G. Isaia, brother, Philip Isaia, sister-in-law, Debbie Isaia formerly of New Rochelle, NY and three grandchildren, niece and nephew. She taught art in Yonkers NY, Kindergarten in Norwalk, CT, Enfield, CT, and art in Manchester CT until she retired in 2013. Carmela Isaia Ciancio was notably a favorite teacher of many students over the years. She was an active member of the CEA Teachers' Union and led her students in the achievement of the Scholastic Art Contest. She volunteered regularly at the American Cancer Society conducting art workshops while undergoing her own medical treatments. Carmela Isaia Ciancio was a devoted and nurturing mother and grandmother who adored her family. Her kindness and generosity resonated throughout her personal life and professional career. In lieu of flowers her family is requesting donations in honor of Carmela Isaia Ciancio to Connecticut Hospice at 100 Double Beach Road in Branford, CT 203-315-7575 or the American Cancer Society by mail at P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123 or by phone 1-800-227-2345 Family will receive friends on Monday August 7, 2017 from 4-7pm at Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home at 43 Kirkham Avenue, East Haven, CT. All are invited to attend the funeral service on Tuesday August 8, 2017 at Our Lady of Pompeii Church at 10am at 355 Foxon Road, Route 80 in East Haven, CT and burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven, CT.
