Anthony D. Mancini M.D., 91, of East Haven, CT passed away peacefully on August 20, 2017 with his family by his side. He was born October 28, 1925 in New Britain, CT to Antonio and Margherita (Totire) Mancini. Anthony was the youngest of 6 children. Early life revolved around school, playing the clarinet, singing in the glee club and, eventually, helping in the family business while his brothers were called to arms. Later, he served in the U.S. Navy during the closing months of WWII where he taught radio navigation to pilots. After an honorable discharge, he completed college, graduating from New York University in 1950. From there he fulfilled his lifelong dream of studying medicine in Italy at the University of Torino. He always spoke glowingly of this chapter in his life, living in Italy during the “Belle Epoch”, a time where post war expectations and dreams were on the rise and life was good. It was there he would meet and marry Adriana Mirra, and return to the United States to begin his medical career, which would span the better part of 40 years. There they also started a family which would be his lifelong labor of love. During that time, he built a medical practice in East Haven which touched multiple generations of patients. In addition to his medical practice, he was active at The Hospital of St. Raphael and The New Haven County Medical Association serving on various committees. He also held an Attending appointment at Yale-New Haven Hospital and regularly attended Grand Rounds there. Retiring from private practice in 2000, he wanted to devote more time to family, friends and his outside interests. His passions included travel, collecting antiques, playing the saxophone and ballroom dancing, which, with Adriana, he participated almost weekly for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered for his unwavering ethical standards, acceptance and inclusion of everyone at a time when it was not fashionable, compassion towards his patients, and devotion to family. Dr. Mancini is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Adriana (Mirra) Mancini, and three sons, David Mancini, M.D. (Josephine “Pina”) of Guilford, Alan Mancini (Debbi) of Lakeland, FL and Dean Mancini (Elizabeth) of Groton, MA. Along with seven grandchildren, Stephanie Mancini, Anthony Mancini, Marcus Mancini, Roman Mancini, Adriana Mancini, Nell Mancini and William Mancini. Anthony is preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Daniel Mancini, Joseph Mancini, Patrick Mancini, Frank Mancini and Lillian Mancini. The Mancini family would like to thank all the staff at The Village at Mariner’s Point in East Haven as well as Tracy Melillo, Gaynell Miller, Robin Snell and Cynthia Heyword for their superb care and constant devotion to his well-being during these last 4 years. Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM on Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home) 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home on Saturday, August 26 at 8:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with Committal and Military Honors to follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Fox Foundation, PO Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5014 or Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd, Branford, CT 06405 in memory of Dr. Anthony Mancini.
