Obituary of John Acampora

John “Jack” Acampora Sr., 86, of North Haven passed away August 19, 2023 at the Arden House in Hamden. He was born December 16, 1936 in New Haven to Salvatore and Rose (Carbone) Acampora. John is survived by his two children, son, John Acampora Jr. of North Haven and a daughter, Patricia Acampora of Tarpon Springs, FL along with six grandchildren, Alyssa Clark (Jim), Jenna Pomichter (Mason Leege), Jocelyn Ramirez, Jillian Brewi (Patrick), Jacqueline Acampora and Kayla Acampora and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Rosemarie Wojciechowski of New Haven and Elaine Rubino of East Haven. John is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Roseann Acampora, and two sisters, Joann Taneszio and Catherine Verab. John known as Jack to his friends and family was the owner and operator of Sal's Auto Service Center located on Lombard Street in New Haven for over 25 years. The business started by his father Salvatore, it became his passion. As a teen Jack was interested in horses and cars. He loved working on them and would spend years driving tow trucks for AAA and refueling the City of New Haven police cars. He was born and raised in New Haven where he attended Hillhouse High. A loving father and grandfather, he retired and moved to North Haven in 1987. He has a huge family with several nieces, nephews and cousins that all are mourning the loss of a kind and loving man. He will be missed by everyone especially Savanah (Jacqueline's daughter) who was always by his side. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 10 A.M. till 12:00 P.M. (NOON) in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. His funeral procession will then leave Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home for 12:30 P.M. graveside service in All Saints Cemetery, 700 Middletown Ave., North Haven.
