In New Haven, March 19,2011, Gordon William Stevens,91,of East Haven. Beloved husband for sixty nine years to Shirley Woodin Stevens. Father of Barbara Reynolds of Cheshire and Joan McKenna (Dr. James D. Condon) of East Haven. Grandfather of Jennifer and Jillian Reynolds of Cheshire, Jonathan (Rupal) Reynolds of New York, Shawn(Jennifer) McKenna of CA and Cheryl(William) Bruce of East Haven. Great grandfather of Harvest and Maple Carocci of Cheshire and Cole and Chase McKenna of CA . Brother of the late Florence Mix and Gladys Borrmann. He was born Jan. 30,1920 in New Haven the son of the late Lewis M. and Mabel L. Reid Stevens and was a member of the first graduating class of East Haven High School in 1937. He was credited with naming the school newspaper the "Comet", a name it still bears today. He entered the US Army in July of 1944 and served proudly with the Third Army, 104th Infantry, Company K, seeing action in the European Theater where his distinguished service earned him three Battle Stars, two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Stevens was employed for thirty years with the US Postal Service as a Postal Inspector retiring in 1977. His memberships included The Sons of the American Revolution, the Yankee Division, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Mayflower Society, the Masonoic Lodge and Christ and the Epiphany Episcopal Church in East Haven. Funeral service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in Christ and the Epiphany Church, East Haven. Intermemt with military honors will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Christ and the Epiphany Church, 39 Park Pl, East Haven, CT 06512. Arrangements are with the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven.
