William Charles Lynehan, "Bill", lifelong resident of East Haven, passed away peacefully on Jan. 28,2011 at the age of 95. He was born in New Haven, son of the late Myrtle (Fowler) Lynehan and Charles Lynehan on Nov. 16,1915. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 Years, Anita (Young) Lynehan in 1986 and by his son, The Rev. Charles W. Lynehan, then of Newburyport,MA in 1987. Bill was a WWII Army veteran stationed in Italy where he served as a cook with the 88th Infantry Division until his honorable discharge. As a child, Bill enjoyed ice skating on Pyro's Pond near his home in East Haven. He continued his love of skating until in his mid-eighties, enjoying the company of his buddies at the East Haven rink. He also enjoyed "pick-up" games on Young's Pond where he was Warden for several years until he retired at 94. During his lifetime he worked for F.D.Graves Cigar Co., Marlin Firearms, Sealtest Dairy making icecream and at Hockings Nursery as a landscaper. He always enjoyed the outdoors and experiencing the quiet wonders of nature. Bill was a gifted listener and many felt blessed to call him "friend". In later years he enjoyed summer afternoon visits with friends at Branford Point. Bill is survived by his daughter in law, Linda Chamberlain Lynehan of Newburyport,MA, his grandchildren, Kimberly Lynehan Wieck and spouse Jim of Canterbury,NH, Steven Lynehan of Newburyport,MA and Susan Lynehan and spouse Laura Waszak of Fremont,NH. Also by six great grandchildren, Karl and Katherine Wieck, Elizabeth, Katherine and Elijah Lynehan and Olivia Waszak. Services will be held Sat.,June 18, 2011 at 2pm in the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, preceaded by an hour of visitation from 1pm. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven. The family requests flowers be omitted. Instead they suggest planting something in one's own garden in memory of Bill. Donations may be made to the Branford Land Trust, PO Box 254, Branford, CT 06405.
