Obituary of John A. Brandt

John Alex Brandt, 95, son of the late Bror Alex and Louise Zeyher, a longtime resident of the Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center, and formerly of Lenox Street New Haven, passed away August 22, 2011. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Egan Brandt, sister Marie, brother Wesley, and daughter-in-law Kathy Diglio Brandt. He leaves behind his children Jack, Tom (Anne), Jim (Melissa), and Betty (Armand)LeVasseur, nine grandchildren, and 10 great- grandchildren. John served as a Lieutenant in the Connecticut State Gurard. He was a longtime employee of High Standard Manufacturing and Winchester Firearms. John retired from the City of New Haven as the Director of Weights and Measures. He was one of the founders of the Dom Aitro Little League in Fair Haven. John was a proud retired member of the 2nd Company Governor’s Foot Guard and enjoyed watching the group march in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade from outside the Grime’s Center on Chapel Street where he was also regularly greeted with handshakes from many Connecticut politician and dignitaries. John was a member of the Fair Haven Congregational Church where he served on the board for many years. The family would like to thank everyone at the Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center for their years of kind care, companionship, and support. Friends and family are invited to call Saturday from 9:00am to 10:30am at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven with a funeral service at 10:30. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sister Anne Virginie Grimes Health Center, 1354 Chapel Street, New Haven, Ct, 06511 or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 1500 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA, 90266 or through their website www.pancan.org.
