Obituary of Monika Merkevicius

In East Haven, Aug. 27, 2011, Monika Savickas Merkevicius, 90, of East Haven. Beloved wife of Zenonas Merkevicius. Mother of Gita O. Kupcinskas and husband Aidas of Walpole, MA and Diana M. Cappello and husband Richard of Milford,CT. Grandmother of Dainora V. Kupcinskas, Aidas Z. Kupcinskas and Maxwell B. Walzer. Great grandmother of Liepa Ivanauskas and Emmanuel Walzer. Sister of Stase Ausiuriene of Lithuania. She was predeceased by many brothers and sisters and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Born Oct. 7, 1920, in Lithuania, a daughter of the late Pranas and Ona Pocaite Savickas, she came to the US in 1949 and worked for many years as a seamstress for The New England Dress Company as well as several area companies and was as a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. She was a member of the New Haven Chapter of the Lithuanian American Community and also the Lithuanian Women’s Federation. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Friday morning at 10:00. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church at 10:30.
