Obituary of Virginia L. Powelson

Virginia (Ginny) Louise Powelson passed away on December 16, 2011 after a long illness. She was born on September 19, 1953 in Portsmouth, VA to the late Alta (Hagar) and Richard Powelson. Ginny lived much of her life in Branford, and was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church. As a girl, she was active in Girl Scouts and had many wonderful adventures camping. Ginny completed schooling with the Branford Education System in 1974. Ginny worked at a variety of jobs in her life, but is best remembered for her years at the Stop and Shop where she worked as a bagger. Ginny participated for many years in Special Olympics; her favorite sport was bowling. She also enjoyed swimming, knitting, traveling and visiting with relatives. She was proud of the many years she was able to live independently. Her boundless positive energy will be missed by all who had contact with her.
Ginny is survived by three siblings, a brother in Loudon, NH, David Powelson, and his wife Mary Jo; a sister in Hampden, ME, Anne Powelson and her husband Mark Goff; and a brother in Penacook, NH, Raymond Powelson, his wife, Kirsten; and seven favorite nieces and nephews, Nate Powelson, of Honolulu, HI, Tabor Powelson of Hyde Park, NY, Colby Powelson of Loudon, NH, Benjamin and Samuel Goff of Hampden, ME, and Amos and Miriam Powelson of Penacook, NH. She also leaves behind several friends, housemates and staff members with Gladeview Health Care, United Cerebral Palsy and especially SARAH.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 in the First Congregational Church of Branford. Interment was private.
