Obituary of Nancy G. McGuire

Nancy Gaynor McGuire, 82, passed away at home April 17th. She was born April 26, 1929 in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late John J. Gaynor, Sr. and Mary (Doyle) Gaynor of Webster, MA. She attended St. Louis School in Webster through 12th grade and was a graduate of Regis College in Weston, MA. Nancy taught English for more than 40 years at St. Vincent de Paul School in East Haven, where she also served for a time as co-principal before retiring four years ago. She enjoyed reading, the arts and travel, having a lifelong love of learning. She served as a Eucharist Minister for St. Vincent de Paul Church and was a member of the non-profit cultural exchange organization The Friendship Force as well as a lifetime member of the Catholic Charity League. She was a long time member of the Owenego Beach Club in Branford where she spent many memorable summers with her family. To her many dear friends, she will always be remembered for her kindness. She is survived by her four children: Mary Ellen McGuire of Madison, CT, Annie McGuire and husband Paul Proto of East Haven, CT, Daniel McGuire of New York City, and Catherine “Katie” Steinhauer and husband Kernin of Roseburg, OR. She also leaves behind six grandchildren, Moira Cotlier – Cassell and husband Ian Cassell, Grace Pascale, Jack Pascale, Derek Stout and wife Melanie, Matthew Stout and fiancé Jess Wolfert and Mark Stout and fiancé Amanda Calandro. Also four great grandchildren, Sean Cotlier, Nolan Cotlier, Aidan Stout and Meadow Stout. She also leaves her brother John J. Gaynor of Hamden, CT, her sister Mary Frances Keating and husband Thomas of Dallas, TX, her brother- in- law Donald Barry of Webster, MA and several nieces and nephews. Nancy was predeceased by her former husband Paul W. McGuire, and her sister Ellen G. Barry. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday April 20th at 11 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday April 19th, from 4 – 8 p.m. at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Nancy’s memory to St. Vincent de Paul School, 35 Bishop Street, East Haven, CT. Nancy’s family would like to thank everyone at Hospice home care for the compassionate and loving care given to her.
