Helma Angermeier Zukauskas Mitchell 85, of East Haven loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother was born into eternal life on January 8, 2013. Helma was born in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany on February 24, 1927 daughter of Magdalana and Xiaver Angermeier. Helma was a teenager during World War II and often recalled the air raids, bomb strikes and food shortages. In 1951, Helma moved to America and settled in East Haven, CT. Helma was a loving and caring soul who carried this trait into her profession of certified nurse assisting at Fairview Convalescent Home from where she retired. She loved reading, walking to the beach, tending to her flowers and baking cookies with her granddaughters. Helma is survived by her son, Ben (Laurie) Zukauskas of East Haven,a son in law CT Starr II of Fort Meyers FL, grandchildren, Saundra (Mark) Woodruff, Leahna (Beau) James, CT Starr III, Amber and Heather Zukauskas and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Ilona Starr, husbands Ben Zukauskas and Willies Mitchell and six siblings. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday morning at 10 in St. Clare Church, East Haven. Interment will follow in East Lawn Cemetery, there are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc., P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA, 22312. Arrangements are made with Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, CT.
