Peter DePaola Jr., 81 of East Haven, passed away at Connecticut Hospice on June 28, 2013. He was the husband of Mary “Liz” (Jenkins) DePaola. Peter was born in New Haven on September 3, 1931; he was the son of Peter and Carmel (Longobardi) DePaola. A graduate of Boardman Trade School in 1949, he served in the United States Army, 9th Infantry and Armored Divisions in Korea and Germany. In 1997, he retired from Metro North Railroad where he worked for 38 years as a mechanical foreman. Peter took great pride having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail. With his wife he enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by three brothers; Anthony, Vincent and Joseph DePaola, all of North Haven, three sisters; Anna Quinn of North Haven, Teresa DeAngelo of Branford, and Carmel DePaola of Wallingford. Peter is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a host of lifetime friends. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth Church, Branford CT. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven. Funeral services in the care of Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peter’s name to: Dominican Nuns, Our Lady of Grace Monastery or Dominican Sisters, Our Lady of the Springs or CT Hospice in c/o Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave. East Haven CT 06512.
