Obituary of Warren Osborn Banta

Warren Osborn Banta, 80 of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of New Haven, passed away February 6, 2014. He was born March 30, 1933 in New Haven to Edwin and Marjorie (Cone) Banta. He is preceded in death by parents, daughter, Adelin Banta, son, Lee Warren Banta, grandson, Justin Banta, brothers, Edwin, Robert and Donald Banta. Warren is survived by daughter, Lynne Banta (Javier Garcia) of New Haven and three granddaughters, Adelyn, Lilah and Noelia Garcia. He is also survived by two brothers, Harold Banta of MA and Paul Banta (Rose) of Branford. Warren grew up in the Savin Rock area of West Haven. He attended West Haven High School where he was known as “Ozzie” to all his friends. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Warren enjoyed baseball and was a pitcher for the Twilight League. He first worked for Western Electric Company then began a long career with the United Illuminating Company as a field engineer. After more than thirty five years with the company he retired in 1994. An avid golfer, Warren moved to Florida to pursue this passion full time. For many years he would return to Connecticut to spend summers with his daughter and her family and his beloved brothers. Warren was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. The family would like to express our gratitude to Ft. Myers Hospice Homecare, GiGi his loving caregiver, devoted neighbors, Joan and Ralph, and especially to his longtime friend Jean Hack. Family and friends are invited to meet and attend a Funeral Service on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 10 AM in the First Congregational Church of West Haven, 1 Church Street, West Haven with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
