Mrs. Clara M. "Nonnie" Gambardella, 98, of New Haven, CT passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22nd, at Branford Hospice. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Cicchetti of Waterbury and the wife of the late Gabriel "Gabe" Gambardella. Clara was born in Waterbury on September 12, 1915, and was educated at the local schools. She was the sister of the late, Andrew, Joseph and George Cicchetti and Francis Creto. Mrs. Gambardella was the mother of the late Mary Susan "Sue" Gambardella O’Connor and the grandmother of Laura O’Connor Barclay of Takoma Park, MD and Kevin O’Connor of Marlborough MA. Affectionately referred to as "Nonnie" she leaves behind 4 great grandchildren, Marin and Kate Barclay and Zachary and Tyler O’Connor. Years ago Mrs. Gambardella worked at Horowitz clothing store in West Haven. She lived on Elaine Terrace in New Haven for the longest part of her life, and more recently lived at Skyview Center in Wallingford, CT. Nonnie was famous for her delicious cooking, especially her home made pizzas, her blueberry muffins and crab sauce that she made religiously every Christmas Eve. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Branford Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road, Branford, CT 06405. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 25 at 10:00 a.m. at Clancy’s Funeral Home at 43 Kirkham St East Haven, CT 06512. Calling hours will be from 9:00a.m. to 10:00a.m. Burial will be private.
