Robert J. Schatzlein “Poppy” 78 of East Haven, passed away July 4, 2014 at home. Robert was born October 1, 1935 in New Haven to James and Erma (Jillson) Schatzlein. He is preceded in death by parents and brother, Warren Schatzlein. Robert is survived by high school sweetheart and wife of 58 years, Jacqueline (Carlson) Schatzlein and three children; Deborah E. Schatzlein (Cynthia Paulson) of Benicia, CA, Douglas E. Schatzlein of East Haven and Dianna E. Schatzlein-Ahern(Stephen Ahern) of Orange. Poppy is also survived by four grandchildren who he cherished; Ryan James Douglas Ahern, Jamie Lynn Elizabeth Ahern, twins, Edward Robert Ahern and Stephen Patrick Ahern II. Robert was a 1953 graduate of East Haven High School, retired from the CT Highway Department as a surveyor and did local surveying for over 50 years in the Greater New Haven area. He was a member of West Haven Elks and the East Haven Stoners Club. He loved his family, friends, dogs and attending all of Ryan’s baseball games and Jamie’s swim meets. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 PM Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Robert enjoyed the outdoors, graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 11 AM in East Lawn Cemetery, East Haven, all are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to a charity of your choice in memory of Robert J. Schatzlein.
