Alva Hitchcock Bradley Jr., 82 of Old Sachem’s head Rd., Guilford died peacefully, Sept. 1, 2008 at Yale-new haven Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born Jan. 18, 1926 in New Haven, a son of the late Alva and Bertha Sabine Bradley. He graduated from East Haven High School in 1944 and remained a devoted alumni throughout his life. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Trinity College and Masters in Business Administration from the University of Hartford. He attended Harvard University and then served as a deep sea diver in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Bradley was employed at the Southern New England Telephone Co. and also AT&T for thirty seven years. He helped design the underwater cable system which brought the first telephone service to the Thimble Islands in Branford. He also participated in the Lite Net project, a joint venture between SNET and CSX Railroad to develop fiber optic cable along the east coast. He was a fifty year Mason, member of Adelphi Lodge, a member of the 50/50 club at the University of New Haven and an active member of the Madison Winter Club. His devotion to his family and friends and his good natured helpfulness will be sorely missed. He is survi8ved by his devoted wife of sixty one year’s Ann Jones Bradley, his three children, Gail Bradley Dziurzynski(John) of East Haven, CT, Wayne Bradley (Julia) of Sharon, MA and Diane Bradley Vitagliano (Mark) of Guilford, Ct and his eight grandchildren, John Dziurzynski, Ben, Matt and Alex Bradley and Melissa, Doug, Kate and Kerry Vitagliano. He was predeceased by a sister Lois Lynch. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:00 in the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4pm-8pm. Gifts in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 538 Preston Ave., P.O. Box 1004, Meriden CT 06450.
