Robert F. Alves 90 of Branford passed away August 31, 2014 at CT Hospice. He was born February 3, 1924 in Mattapoisett, MA to Manuel and Josephine (Silveira) Alves. He is preceded in death by parents and brothers, Edward, Joseph and William Alves. Robert is survived by loving wife of 65 years, Ruth (Smithson) Alves and two sons; John Alves (Julie) of East Haven and Robert Alves (Patricia) of Higganum. Robert is also survived by five grandchildren; Jeana Closinski (Doug), John Alves (Kristen), Joanna Fairs (Jim), Kevin Alves and Brian Alves and four great grandchildren; Sydney Closinski, Ryan Alves, Avery and William Fairs. Robert was a US Navy veteran of WWII and retired electrician with over 30 years of service as an inspector at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:40 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Vincent de Paul Church, East Haven. Committal to follow at All Saints Cemetery with military honors. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd. Branford CT 06405 in memory of Robert Alves.
