Obituary of Josephine Cordelli Compitello

Josephine Cordelli Compitello 89 of Branford and East Haven passed away August 31, 2014 at CT Hospice. She was born February 7, 1925 in White Plains, NY to Domenico and Catherine (Maroni) Cordelli. She is preceded in death by parents, husband, Rocco Compitello, grandson, Christopher Hemstock, three brothers and one sister. Josephine is survived by five loving children; Catherine Hemstock (Donald) of East Haven, Patricia Gambardella (Roy) of East Haven, Rocco Compitello Jr. of Branford, Sandra Santos of New Haven and Joanne Ralston (Robert) of North Haven. A proud grandmother of Donald Hemstock (Jacqueline), Michael Hemstock (Cherie), Janna Grieco (John), Andrew Gambardella (Shaily), Thomas Helms (Laura), Jessica Santos, Chloe Ralston, Robert Ralston, “Bunny and Lumpy” and twelve great grandchildren. Growing up Josephine enjoyed dancing and participating in sports. She was a very devoted daughter and sister. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a tremendous cook and loved to bake. Sharing meals with her family on Sundays was one of her greatest joys. No one was ever turned away from her table. If you came to the door, a plate was placed for you at the table. Knitting was her favorite pastime. Each birth was blessed with one of her blankets. She will be missed by her family and friends. Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven from 9 – 11 am, with funeral service starting in the funeral home at 11. Burial to follow at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven. Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis TN 38105 in memory of Josephine Compitello.
