Mildred Estella Berke, 86, of Madison and Delray Beach, FL, passed away December 6, 2014 at home in Madison with her family by her side. She was born on January 11, 1928 in Philadelphia, to Samuel and Mary (Pivavaroff) Weiner. She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Oscar, Sidney and Leonard Weiner. Mildred is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Jules Berke, and four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Nancy Berke of Georgia, Robert and Tuula Berke of Clinton, Dr. Randy and Lisa Berke of Simsbury and Michael and Holly Berke of Madison. Mildred is also survived by ten grandchildren whom she adored: Maxwell Berke, Asher Berke, Morgan Berke, Katherine Berke, Jonathan Berke, Scott Berke, Emalie Berke, Jennifer Berke, Chandler Berke and Trevor Berke. Mildred was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was past President of Sisterhood at Temple Beth El in Spring Valley, NY and volunteered at Mass General Hospital in the Oncology Ward. Mildred will be remembered by family and friends for her delicious homemade baked goods and the endless cards and letters written to keep in touch with everyone she knew. She traveled the world with her loving husband and made life-long friends from all over the world. She loved to entertain, and her home and her heart were always open to everyone. She will be forever missed by all. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service at 1 PM on December 9, 2014 at Temple Beth Tikvah, 196 Durham Rd (Route 79), Madison, CT. Burial will follow at Beaverbrook Cemetery in Clinton. Funeral services are in the care of Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven. The Berke family will be observing Shiva immediately after the burial, back at the family residence.
