Thomas “Tom” Ryan, 66, of New Haven passed away December 7, 2014 at Yale New Haven Hospital. He was born June 14, 1948 in MA to John Francis and Rose (Aplin) Ryan on their first anniversary. He is preceded in death by parents and father-in-law, Robert Beman. Tom is survived by loving wife and helpmate for almost 38 years, Barbara (Beman) and sisters, Mary Jo Gonsiorowski (David), Jean Bianchetto (Lee) and Patricia Ryan. Tom is also survived by mother-in-law, Carolyn Clark Beman, sisters- in- law, Suzanne Jones, Joan Russell (Bill), Dianne Myers (Jim), nephews, Ryan Bianchetto (Annemarie), Matthew Bianchetto (Elizabeth), nieces, Stacey Panasci (Eric), Carla Eberle (Nathaniel) , Elizabeth Levy (Grant), grand-nephews, Tyler Bianchetto, Oliver Eberle, grand-nieces, Sophia Panasci, Isabella Panasci and Neve Eberle. He was a cousin of Beth Haran (Bob Leslie), John Ryan (Margie), Michael Ryan (Deborah), Cathy Wallace (Joe), James Ryan, Peg Ryan (Stuart Clifford). Tom spent his early years in Peabody and Beverly, MA. He moved to Fairfield, CT and then graduated from Fairfield Prep High School and St. Joseph’s College in Philadelphia. He spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer teaching English as a second language in Thailand. He taught at St. Mary’s High School (New Haven) from 1973 to 1980 in the Social Studies Department. He later earned his MBA from the University of Bridgeport and spent much of his working life as a self-employed home renovator and woodworker. He volunteered in many areas of the parish life at St. Rose of Lima Church in New Haven. As a hobby, Tom enjoyed running, biking, Lionel Trains and reading about American history. Family will receive friends on Thursday, December 11, 2014, from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 115 Blatchley Ave., New Haven. Funeral services are in the care of Clancy Funeral Home, East Haven. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 115 Blatchley Ave., New Haven, CT, 06513 or Amistad Catholic Workers House, 203 Rosette St., New Haven, CT, 06519, CONECT, 185 Cold Spring St., New Haven, CT, 06511 in memory of Thomas Ryan.
