Walter B. McKay (ret. Capt. NHFD) 88 of New Haven passed away April 15, 2015 at home peacefully in his sleep. He was born May 6, 1926 in New Haven to William McKay and Margaret (Brereton) Stradley. He is preceded in death by parents, step-father, Kenneth Stradley, brothers, William, James and John McKay, sisters, Marie Farrell and Frances McDonald. Walter is survived by brother, Irving McKay (Dorothy) of East Haven, sisters, Joan Hurley (Frank) of East Haven and Betty Novicki of New Haven. Walter is also survived by numerous nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews. Walter was a US Navy veteran of WWII having served as an armed guard on the Liberty ship. He was a retired Captain with the NHFD with over 25 years of service, member of American Legion – NHFD Post 132 and original member of the East Haven Stoner’s Club. Family will receive friends from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Funeral procession will leave Clancy Funeral Home on Monday at 9:45 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Taylor Ave., East Haven with committal to follow at Beaverdale Memorial Park with military honors.
