In Groton, January 6, 2009, Joseph Francis Looney, 93, longtime Fair Haven resident. Beloved husband for 64 years to the late Frances Dwyer Looney. Father of Rev. Joseph E. Looney of Bethlehem, Phillip J. Looney of Liverpool,NY, Mary F. Wilkinson of Stonington, Michael P. Looney of Mirimar,FL and the late Mark R. Looney. Grandfather of Taryn Looney of NYC, and Kara Looney of Boston. Brother of the late Mary Ellen Looney, John Looney and Francis W. Looney. Born September 26, 1915 in New Haven a son of the late John J. and Bridget T. Reidy Looney, he was a graduate of Commercial High School, New Haven and the former New Haven Business School. He had been employed for forty one years by CT Transit Co. as a bus driver. A longtime member of St. Francis Church in Fair Haven, he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was involved with many of the church clubs and organizations. Joseph was a former alderman form the 26th ward in New Haven and was a former officer of the New Haven Transit Credit Union. Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Saturday morning at 10:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Francis Church at 11:00. Burial will follow in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Church, 397 Ferry St., New Haven, CT 06513 or Church of the Nativity, 48 East St., Bethlehem, CT 06751.
