In Ct. Hospice, March 23, 2009, John J. "Jack" Donovan, 81, of Townsend Ave., New Haven. Beloved husband of Gloria Sperandea Donovan for fifty seven years. Father of John "Jake" Donovan of Cromwell and Westbrook and Richard (Jane) Donovan of Branford. Grandfather of John, Eamon, Fiona, Elizabeth and Katherine Donovan. Brother of Florence Krukowski of Hamden, Robert Donovan of Orange, CA and the late William Donovan. Born Dec. 19, 1927 in New Haven a son of the late John and Florence Taitro Donovan, he was a graduate of Hillhouse High School, class of 1945 and then served with the US Navy. Jack was employed for thirty five years as an engineer with the New York-New Haven & Hartfordf Railroad, Conrail and then Amtrack from where he retired in 1990. An acomplished golfer. he was a past club champion at Laurel View Country CLub. He also was an avid fisherman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday morning at l0:00 in St. Vincent de Paul Church. East Haven. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. There are no calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Michael McGivney Center for Cancer Care, 1450 Chapel Street., New Haven, CT 06511.
