In Branford, March 23, 2009, Robert E.Manns, 85, of Short Beach Rd, East Haven. formerly of Hudson St., East Haven. Husband of the late Virginia Joyce Manns. Father of Patricia Manns Mikutis and husband Stephen with whom Robert resided with at their home on Short Beach Rd., and Barbara Manns Karney of North Branford. Also survived by three grandchildren, three great grandchildren , his beloved sister in law Dorothy Otto of East Haven, a special niece and nephew, Noreen Ranalli of NYC, and Thomas Ranalli Jr. of East Haven and his precious cats, Pretty Boy and Snuggles. He was pre- deceased by a sister and two brothers. Born July 10, 1923 in New Haven a son of the late Ernest B. and Laura McDermott Manns, he was a graduate of West Haven High School and served with the US Army during WWII. He had been employed as a mechanic with Atlas Trucking Co. and New Haven Transit and then a driver and mechanic for Tidewater Co. and lastly with Amoco Oil Co. from where he retired after thirty seven years of employment Funeral service will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in the Clancy Funeral Home,- 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will follow in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday morning prior to the service from 9:00-10:00. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
