In Branford, Sept. 20, 2009, Joseph L. Butler, 92 formerly of Carle Rd., Branford. Husband of the late Alice Brickach Butler. Father of Nancy (John) Bussmann of Cheshire and Michael J. (Deborah) Butler of Killingworth. Grandfather of Katie Touchette, Jessica Bussmann and Jeffrey Bussman. Great grandfather of Ashlyn and Riley Touchette. Brother of Francis Butler of OR, Marie Steere of RI, Helen Simpson of RI and the late Blanche Colson and John, Alfred, Albert and Edward Butler. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Born June 28, 1917 in Smithfield, RI a son of the late Alfred F. and Emma Bernard Butler, he served with the US Navy during WW2 and the Korean War. Mr. Butler was employed for many years as an assistant supervisor of materials for the NY-New Haven-Hartford Railroad retiring in 1982. He lived in Branford for over fifty two years, was a member of the Branford Senior Citizens, the Branford Pawtucket, RI V.F.W., and also the National Assoc. of Retired Railroad Employees. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. Burial will follow with military honors in East Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday morning from 8:30 until time of service.
