Hanley of Wallingford, Thomas Hanley and wife Judy of Mlddlebury, VT, Rev. Dennis P.
Hanley (Maj. USAF, Ret.) of Germany, Richard Hanley and life partner Sharon Wood of
New Haven, Brian Hanley (Lt. Col. USAF, Ret.) and wife Terry of Annapolis, MD,
Sean O'Casey Hanley and wife Maria of Wallingford and Mary Meyer and husband Gerhard of New Haven,
VT. Also survived by sixteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, two brothers
in law, Walter Barker and John Barker, both of New Haven and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three sisters, Lauren Peach, Bernice Dacosta and Claire Gruber,
two brothers Raymond Hanley and Thomas Hanley (Thomas - KIA April 1945), and three
brothers in law, Donald Barker, Frank Elliott and William Elliott. Born March 8, 1924 in
Bridgeport, a son of the late Raymond and Mabel Muldowney Hanley, was a graduate of
East Haven High School and served with the 15th Army Air Force as a nose gunner during
WWII seeing action in European Theater. Walter was employed as a yardmaster for many
years with the New York-New Haven-Hartford Railroad and also Conrail. He was a member
of the VFW and the American Legion.
Funeral from the Clancy Funeral Home, 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven, Monday morning at
8:30. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Vincent de Paul Church at 9:00. Burial with
military honors will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Branford. Friends may call Sunday from
3 - 7 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the New Haven Animal Shelter, 81 Fournier
